On December 4, 2024, the Lviv Polytechnic team, as part of the Baltics4UA project, hosted an
Online Roundtable: Ukrainians in the Country and Abroad: Social and Technological
Dimensions in Crisis Response within and beyond HEIs. The event was held on the Zoom
platform and brought together experts and participants to address critical challenges and strategies
for resilience in education, society, and technology.
The Roundtable focused on analyzing approaches to overcoming the consequences of the ongoing
crisis and identifying effective strategies to ensure the sustainability of educational, social, and
technological systems both in Ukraine and abroad.
The program was divided into two parts:
- Expert Presentations – Featured distinguished speakers who shared insights on the social
and technological challenges during the crisis:
o Prof. Yana Sychikova – Vice-Rector for Scientific Work, Berdiansk State
Pedagogical University, Ukraine.
o Dr. Lyudmila Trotsenko – PhD, Library of Wroclaw University, Poland.
o Dr. Mariana Cherkes – MD, PhD, MBA, Department of Otorhinolaryngology,
Medical University of Graz, Austria.
2. Interactive Discussion – Engaged all participants in exploring pressing issues, such as:
o The impact of the war on the integration of Ukrainians into new communities.
o The role of universities in supporting displaced individuals.
o Necessary transformations in university curricula to address wartime challenges.
o Social initiatives universities can implement to aid affected populations.
The discussions provided a deeper understanding of the critical roles universities play in crisis
response, both as educational institutions and as pillars of community support. The insights gained
contribute to the development of mechanisms for Ukraine’s recovery and reintegration while
enhancing strategies to address the challenges faced by Ukrainians globally.
The outcomes of this roundtable are a vital resource for shaping future policies and initiatives aimed
at overcoming the consequences of the crisis and fostering resilience in educational and social
systems.
