This challenge aims to protect Ukrainian cultural heritage by engaging university staff and students from Baltic universities in the process. By using space data, an online tool will be created to monitor damages to cultural monuments in Ukraine.

Goals / Outcomes
Our Challenge aims to:
- Enhance European universities’ innovation potential for Ukrainian cultural heritage.
- Develop an online tool that combines space and geo data.
- Monitor damages to war-torn Ukrainian cultural heritage.
Our experience

Expectations and requirements
The expected result of our Challenge is the release of a prototype of the online tool that will showcase real-time damages of Ukrainian cultural heritage monuments. The tool will map and present the status of monuments and the degree of war-driven damages in terms of environmental pollution, and war-related parameters (e.g., explosions).
The team that will work on this Challenge will have expertise in the use and analysis of space data and Earth observations, as well as be familiar with Ukrainian databases providing real-time data on the situation in the country (e.g., SaveEcoBot). Particularly, we aim to collaborate with students and staff from geography departments of Baltic universities.
The Challenge is part of the Erasmus+ Baltics4UA project (Supporting Ukraine through citizen engagement at Baltic Universities). This Challenge continues work developed in the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2023 in which Web2Learn formed its Space4UA team (description of our Challenge here).
